Tanya lived in a small Victorian country town for 30 years, but was forced to leave her hometown for medical reasons. When the floods hit Shepparton in early 2023, Tanya found herself competing with others who were displaced and looking for new homes. She was struggling and rental applications just weren’t getting approved.
“I met with so many housing providers but Paul from Wintringham was fantastic! He called me so many times just to see how I was! I was still putting in for rentals because you never know, but I couldn’t get anything. I was really struggling because I was on my own. One real estate agent even suggested that I’d be better off getting a boyfriend because then they’d accept me!”
“I was overwhelmed moving in to Wintringham – everyone here is so nice! Even the maintenance man! They all ask if you’re ok. They supplied my bed, all the white goods, the sheets, the doonas, two forks, two knives, even a new lounge – they thought of everything. There are security cameras everywhere, so I feel really safe; plus I’m in a wheelchair and I can get around ok; my wheelchair fits through the doors!“
“Moving into this place was special, it was like they have my back, and they’ll have my back forever. It’s like being in a little community and they’re all willing to help you. I don’t have to worry about anything anymore. I’m not going to get kicked out of here, I can stay as long as I want – which is great.”
“It’s an amazing place. I can’t thank Wintringham enough!”
