As Harmony Week came to a close, one story garnered some well-deserved attention – a tale of compassion, initiative and community building. Amale, a dedicated volunteer at Delahey Community Housing, has been quietly transforming the lives of residents, creating a genuine sense of belonging for those who may have once felt isolated.
When Amale noticed some residents were reluctant to join in the activities, she took a thoughtful approach by handwriting individual invitations in Arabic, their native language.
“I wanted them to know they are not alone – there are people here who speak their language, who have also integrated and built better lives for themselves. I want them to see that they can do the same,” Amale said.
But Amale didn’t stop there – she also helped these residents practice English while creating spaces for meaningful conversations and social connections. One memorable discussion that brought everyone together pondered the question: ‘What are your positive impressions of Australia?’
Amale’s dedication has turned her role into a vital support system, making a lasting impact on the community. A wonderful example of how one person can promote inclusivity and build a harmonious space for all. Thank you for being a great inspiration, Amale.
