Wintringham is excited to confirm it will build 28 – 30 new independent living units in Wyndham Street Shepparton, thanks to funding from the State Government, the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) Victorian Branch, and an Australian philanthropic trust.
The announcement was made on 24 October in Shepparton with Mark Gepp MP Member for Northern Victoria, Bill Heath Labor Candidate for Shepparton, Julie Wearing-Smith from the ANMF and Wintringham's Regional Manager Gayle Reeve and CEO/Founder Bryan Lipmann AM in attendance.
The site in Wyndham Street is adjacent to Wintringham’s current housing and support services in Maude Street Shepparton, which means the new residents will be able to easily access housing support and related services.
The new homes will be allocated to elderly homeless people or those at risk of homelessness, with priority being given to those who have experienced family violence.
The State Government will fund $5.5 million, the ANMF $2 million and a philanthropic trust will contribute $2.5 million.
Construction is expected to start in 2020 with the first residents being housed in late 2021.
“We are proud to already be serving the Shepparton community, and this project means we can extend our housing and support services for those in need even further,” said Bryan Lipmann AM, Wintringham CEO and Founder.
“This is a powerful example of how government and community funds can be used in partnership to deliver much needed services.”
