Wintringham is pleased to see the Federal Government has announced that both the Homeless Supplement and Viability Supplement will be increased by 30 per cent over the next four years.
This means more than 1,700 residents in aged care who have a homeless and disadvantaged background will have improved financial support to help deliver the services they require.
“Monday’s announcement is a welcome response to our years of lobbying Government to increase funding for the support and care of older people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness,” said Bryan Lipmann AM, Wintringham Chief Executive Officer and Founder.
We think the Government is on the right track with this announcement, however, as welcome as this funding increase is, there are still a number of issues impacting on services to elderly homeless women and men that need addressing.
“We look forward to continuing our work with the Government and the sector, in particular Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA), Chief Executive Officer Pat Sparrow who has shown great leadership on this issue,” said Bryan.
Wintringham is Australia’s largest specialist aged care service for older people who are homeless, vulnerable to homelessness or disadvantaged. Established almost 30 years ago the organisation provides outreach, supported housing, residential aged care and community (in-home) care services across metropolitan and regional Victoria.
