Wintringham today announces that it has been the beneficiary of a huge philanthropic grant from the Peter and Lyndy White Foundation of $7,500,000.
The grant from the Peter and Lyndy White Foundation will be used to purchase the Gilgunya Village, an aged care facility owned by Wesley Mission Victoria. Gilgunya consists of 51 bedroom low care hostel units and 12 two-bedroom independent living units together with supporting facilities, contained in an attractively landscaped 0.83 hectare site in Harding St, Coburg.
The donation from the Peter and Lyndy White Foundation ensures that the property remains in the Not-For-Profit sector and will be made available to the homeless and near homeless aged population.
All existing residents and staff are assured that they will be able to transfer to Wintringham should they choose.
Wintringham’s demonstrably effective and financially efficient programs have attracted a consistent flow of philanthropic and government funds. We have used these funds to make an enduring difference to the lives of untold numbers of aged people and have thereby permanently altered the landscape of disadvantage in Victoria.
The Peter and Lyndy White Foundation hopes that their donation will encourage other trusts and individuals to reduce our homeless problem.
Wintringham for its part, re-commits to providing the finest quality aged care and housing services to the elderly poor.
It is extremely unlikely that a grant of this size has ever previously been made to the elderly homeless either here in Australia or indeed internationally.
